Traffic lights set for busy intersections

Two more traffic lights are on their way to heavily traveled thoroughfares in Fayette.

The County Commission last week approved hiring Atcheson Electrical Contractors to put a light at Ga. highways 74 and 85 at a cost of $24,131, and a light at Ga. Highway 54 and Sandy Creek Road for $23,638.

The 74/85 intersection has become a traffic bottleneck with the opening of the Starr's Mill school complex on 74 at Redwine Road, said assistant county manager Chris Cofty.

The Sandy Creek/54 intersection is seeing increased congestion as development springs up around Fayette Community Hospital, officials say.
