City Cafe set to open in two weeks

The long-awaited opening of City Cafe across from City Hall in Fayetteville should happen within two weeks or so, said owner Doreen Schatte.

Delayed by rain during early construction, the cafe is almost ready, said Schatte, but she and husband Jorg want to make sure staff are fully trained before opening. They are hoping for Labor Day week, she said.

The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner with a European flavor, and German pastries and treats will be available for breakfast. The two-story restaurant building also will house the couple's catering operation.

Development plans for a Merlin Muffler shop at 280 N. Glynn St., Fayetteville, across from Carolyn Ford, have been approved, clearing the way for a six-bay shop designed to look like a row of businesses on a circa 1900 city street.

Construction is expected to begin soon.

Construction also will begin soon on a new home for Joseph Sams School on Brandywine Boulevard. The city Planning Commission approved development plans for the school as well.

Blood drive Monday

A Red Cross Blood Drive is planned Monday, Aug. 31, 1:30 - 6 p.m. at Aberdeen Woods Conference Center, room 12.
