The Rev.
Chuck Griffith Religion Columnist Our John cries out for unity and is heard
"There came a man who was sent from God; his name
was John."
In Fayette County we have a man of God whose name
is John. He is not John the Baptist but John a Southern
Baptist (though he would not appreciate any kind of label other
than Christian). He pastors one of the churches in Fayette
County but would rather be known as one of the pastors of the
Church in Fayette County.
He is a leader in the reconciliation and unity movement
in our area through example and influence. He is the
unspoken (and spoken) leader of our weekly ministers'
fellowship breakfast.
On Aug. 23 at 6 p.m., there will be a Unity Service at
Starrs Mill High School with worship leader Ron Kenoly.
Though ministries from all over south Atlanta will be
represented, John is the selected spokesman for the pastors and
churches joining together at this service.
John was the first individual with a vision for a "March
for Jesus" in Fayette County. After months of hard work, he
saw that vision become a reality with 1500-plus people lifting
up the name of Jesus while marching from the high
school parking lot to the county complex.
He wrote this weekly column for about four years I
am sure you miss it. In his column he regularly
recommended other pastors and churches in the area. His ministry passion
is to bring together the Body of Christ in order to
demonstrate the character of Christ to a watching world.
If you would like to meet a pastor who is not trying to
build his own kingdom, who sees the Church as bigger than just
his local congregation, and who desires to see others come
to know Jesus as their Savior, let me introduce you to my
friend, Dr. John Hatcher. Dr. Hatcher pastors Rivers Edge
Community Church, located on South Jeff Davis in Fayetteville.
Join them for a service this week.
If you cannot join them for a service, plan to be at
Starrs Mill High School on Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. Meet my friend
John, and be a part of the unity movement he has worked to hard
to make happen.
Chuck Griffith is pastor of Fayette Assembly of God,
1144 Ga. Highway 92 South in Fayetteville, 770-719-0322.
