Garbage trucks may soon rumble through
Fayetteville neighborhoods five days a week instead of the current once a week.
Garbage collector Waste Management Inc. needs to spread
collection over more days each week because of rapid growth,
business development manager Gerald Matthews told City Council
Monday.
Council gave Matthews permission to work with staff and
develop a plan for dividing the city into five service areas,
contingent on city manager Mike Bryant's approval of the details.
Matthews promised to notify each customer at least twice
before making the change.
Fayetteville police
among best trained
Fayetteville's police department has entered the ranks of
Georgia's best-trained and best-operated law enforcement agencies.
Police Chief Johnny Roberts reported that the department
received state accreditation and, for the second year this decade,
was named Georgia's best-trained police organization during a
recent conference of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
The Outstanding Award for Departmental Training
recognizes the fact that Fayetteville's officers on average have
undergone 174.8 hours of training, highest in the state, Roberts said.
Accreditation recognizes that the city has met standards
adopted by the state last year after years of discussion and research. The
department is one of only 24 accredited in the state thus far.
