Letters from Our Readers
I said I could not wait to see where [Fayette County
Commissioner Scott] Burrell's financial support came from it
most certainly was not the sign he piggybacked.
It was no surprise to learn a large contribution of $500
was from none other than his "$50,000 taxpayer's money for a
private road" partner, [Peachtree City] Mayor [Bob] Lenox. They
both had memory lapse!
The voters spoke in the primary, [but] now there's
another developer-oriented "good ole boy" making a run for
county commission. He's the former mayor of Peachtree City,
Fred Brown. When he was mayor and the plans for the widening of
Ga. Highway 74, noted to be a limited access highway, were given
to each owner along the highway, Brown told a "small" group
of unhappy business owners they were denied a crossover (in
his words "according to DOT's criteria") at their business
entrance. But in a continued conservation, he admitted PCDC
[Peachtree City Development Corp.] would get a crossover on Ga.
Highway 54 even though it did not meet criteria. His comment was,
"They have more money." We quipped, "We have more votes."
Now the highway has been crisscrossed with crossovers
and curb cuts, making it one of the most dangerous highways in
Fayette County.
Again, it is necessary in the county commission race for
the voters to let the "good ole boys" know that the politicians work
for the citizens, not the developers.
By the way, Mayor Lenox has contributed $645 to Fred
Brown's campaign.
In the runoff, I'm voting Linda Wells qualified and
experienced with a record for controlled growth.
Please vote Aug. 11. You and your vote are important to
our county's future.
