Bad Links? | State boundLady Tigers earn trip to TiftonBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Fayette County Lady Tigers knew that if they were playing their best ball of the season as they entered the region tournament, they had just a good a chance as anyone to make the state tournament. They did it and the road was not easy. Fayette County drew a game with Starrs Mill in the opening round on Monday. The Lady Tigers battled the Lady Panthers the whole night and pitcher Caroline Teubl and the Fayette defense gave amazing performances, keeping the game tied at 0-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Amanda Howett singled and Katie Ison scored. The Lady Tigers would lose the game 1-0 but would bounce back the next day with a 3-2 win over Newnan to guarantee them one of the top four spots in the region. Britt Hammel-Cobb drove in a run early in the game and Jaklyn Edelstein and Kristen West drove in runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to get the win. The win put Fayette County up against East Coweta and the Lady Indians won 4-1. Teubl drove in the lone run for Fayette County. The loss put the Lady Tigers in fourth place in the tournament. They will open the AAAAA South Sectionals next Friday in Tifton at 6 p.m. they will face the region champions from region 3-AAAAA. |
