County championships featured a tigh race in boys division

The Fayette County High School boys cross country team placed second in the county championship meet on Tuesday. The Tigers tied Our Lady of Mercy through their first five runners but Mercy’s sixth runner finished aead of Fayette’s sixth runner.

The Fayette County boys had four runners finish in the top 20, earning medals. They were:
• John DeCotis, 5, 17:47
• Ryan Kennedy, 6, 18:02
• David Zitelli, 7, 18:02
• Michael Blankenbeker, 12, 18:14

The girls had two medalists.
• Claire Bergstrom, 12, 21:54
• Caitlin Alverson, 15, 22:30

Fayette County’s cross country teams were scheduled to appear in thr Coach Wood Invitational in Gainesville this weekend and will race in the last Chance Invitational in Carrollton next Saturday.
