Bad Links? | More traffic problems along I-85By BEN NELMS The traffic woes along I-85 are set to continue this weekend. The best bet might be to avoid the area on weekends for the next two months. The immediate South Fulton area will experience closures of two right lanes along I-85 northbound from just north of Ga. Highway 74 to Ga. Highway 138 and from Flat Shoals Road to I-285 beginning Friday at 9 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. The I-85 northbound ramp to I-285 northbound and eastbound will be closed from Friday at 11 p.m. until Saturday at 6 a.m. The closure is necessary, said Georgia DOT spokesperson Karlene Barron, for construction crews to work on the reconstruction of I-85 northbound near the I-285 ramps. During this time motorists are encouraged to use exit 69, Old National Highway, to access I-285 eastbound and the downtown connector and I-20 when trying to get to the west side of I-285, she added. Also this weekend, two northbound lanes between Collinsworth Road and Hwy. 74 will be closed in various areas from 9 p.m. Friday until Saturday at 6 p.m. And on Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. one left lane will be closed on I-85 southbound from Hwy. 138 to just north of Hwy. 74. Looking two next weekend, Barron said the I-85 northbound ramps to i-285 will be closed Oct. 21-23. Inclimate weather in recent months pushed the original completion date from late September to Dec. 19. |
