Bad Links? | Teams pick up wins as area tournaments approachSandy Creeks season without seniors ended when senior, Britteny Howell returned to the line-up last Thursday evening after having a broken ankle. The young team defeated the hosting Dutchtown Bulldogs in three, losing the first game but coming back strong to finish the match (22-25, 25-17, 25-17). Their momentum continued when the Lady Patriots handed the undefeated Jonesboro Cardinals their first loss in two games (25-17, 25-16). Ana Marchman had 24 assists on the night and Olympia Haney and Katie Davenport each added four blocks. Jesse Ruple had 22 kills total in the five games and Ruple and Davenport also had four aces a piece. The Lady Patriots dominated all three region matches at Sandy Creek on Monday. All matches were won in two games against Washington (25-8,25-9), Mays (25-19, 25-8) and Creekside (25-9, 25-9). Senior Kristen Burnett hit the hardwood for the first time this season serving 11 aces. Marchman recorded 19 assists, Haney mastered 11 kills and Ruple handled 13 digs. Sandy Creeks overall record currently stands at 33-14 and 5-2 in area play. The Lady Patriots return home Thursday, Oct. 13 for Senior Night to end their regular season against Lithia Springs and Hardaway at 5 p.m. Starrs Mill faced Fayette County and Newnan last week and won both matches. They beat the Lady Tigers 25-10, 25-19 and beat Newnan 25-9 and 25-4. Starrs Mill played Sequoyah and Woodward Academy at Woodward last night. Starrs Mill will host the area tournament starting tomorrow night at 5 p.m. Landmark Christian beat Westminster, 25-21 ad 25-17, and Holy Innocents 25-17 and 25-10 last week. they played Wesleyan and Athens Academy at Wesleyan last night and will travel to Eagles Landing Christian Academy to face the Eagles and Woodward tomorrow. McIntosh hosted their senior night last Thursday and defeated Chapel Hill, 25-13 and 25-8 and Decatur, 25-23. On Monday, the Lady Chiefs defeated Northgate and Whitewater but lost to Woodward Academy 25-23 and 25-21. |
