Bad Links? | Brooks Elem. elects student councilIn an unprecedented ceremony, Brooks Elementary School inducted 18 members into their very first student council Sept. 15. These students will represent their homerooms in the council during the 2005-2006 school year. The Induction ceremony included a very special guest, Mayor Butler, the mayor of Brooks. After giving the newly elected representatives a few words of encouragement he officially inducted them into the Brooks All Star Student Council. The third-grade representatives are Zachary Pye, Maci Townsend, Matthew Bishop, Alexandra Mandich, McKenzie Etchart and Anna Reese Cody. The fourth-grade representatives are Hannah Rowan, Taylor Higginbotham, Kaelynne Boyd, Rachel Roye, Kate Steele and Spencer Stieb. The fifth-grade representatives are Ashley Roberts, Cody Wilson, James Brown, Haley Brown, Camden Wesolowski and Karli Walleser. These representatives had to campaign in their homerooms, even giving a campaign speech before elections were held Sept. 9. Each homeroom in grades 3-5 elected a representative and an alternate. During this inaugural year, each of these classes will adopt a buddy class from kindergarten through second grade to represent as well. The alternate will keep the buddy class informed and the representative will keep the homerooms informed. With the guidance of the faculty advisors, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. LaChance and Mrs. Williams, the student council officers will be elected at the next meeting. The council will then begin the task of giving students a voice at Brooks. The schools vision statement is Together: Striving for Excellence and it is clear that these students and this school are well on their way. |
