Velma Banks WhiteVelma Banks White, 74, East Point, died Sept. 18, 2005. She was born Feb. 24, 1931 in Fayette County, daughter of Loy Aubrey and Violet Nelson Banks. Graveside services were at the West Cemetery, Fayette County. Survivors include a son, Michael E. White, East Point; daughters, Delores Diane Bernabez, Stockbridge, and Diane White St. John, Jenkinsburg; and a brother, Burnice Banks, Fairburn. Services were at the Dogwood Church with the Rev. Keith Moore officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Jean R. Horton, Fayetteville; daughters, Megan Horton, Kristin Horton, and Brooke Horton, all of Fayetteville; his mother, Emma Horton, Valley Forge, Pa.; and siblings, Mark Horton, Temecula, Calif., Elizabeth Waclawsky, Brighton, Mich., Jennifer Michlitsch, Peoria, Ariz., Tim Horton, Valley Forge, Pa., and Julie DeYoung, Gilbert, Ariz. She was born Dec. 11, 1942 in Floyd County. She was graduated from Georgia State University in 1979 with a B.S. in education. She taught world history at Riverdale High School from 1979 to 1989, and then taught at Fayette County High School until her retirement in 2003. She enjoyed traveling abroad where she visited 17 countries and used her slides and pictures in her teaching presentations from these travels. Graveside services were at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. The Rev. Glenn Stringham officiated. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Don Yarbrough, Fayetteville; children, Jeff and Angela Yarbrough, Melinda Sebastian, and Brad and Kyler Yarbrough; five grandchildren; parents, Ralph and Inez Steele; and a sister, Betty and Greg Dewberry. Thomas Warren Gillespie Sr.Thomas Warren Tom Gillespie Sr., 75, Fayetteville, died Sept. 20, 2005. He was born Nov. 12, 1929 in Elberton. He was the second of seven children born to the late James Milton and Thomas Eleanor Warren Gillespie. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, James Marshall Gillespie, and William Lafayette Gillespie. He began a food service career in the Elberton Drug Store in the mid 1940s, and also in the United States Navy. He bought the Hillbilly House Restaurant in Clayton County in 1971, closing it in 1989. He had been active in DeMolay and the Masonic order since 1967. He had attained the rank of 32nd degree Mason. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sarah Bernice Strickland Gillespie, Fayetteville; a son, Thomas W. and Donna Gillespie Jr.; daughters, Teresa and Tommy Durden, and Deana Poss; brothers, the Rev. Jack B. Gillespie, Adairsville, Ga., James M. Gillespie Jr., Sky Valley, Henry E. Gillespie, Middleburg, Fla., and Robert L. Gillespie, North Augusta, S. C.; sisters-in-law, Lucy Gillespie, and Derallin Gillespie, Columbia, S. C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Jordan, 66, Fayetteville, died Sept. 24, 2005. She was born July 23, 1939 in Cordele, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert A. Jordan Sr., who died in March, 2003, parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Murray, and a sister, Nell M. Reed. She loved to travel and see other parts of the world. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Matt McMurray officiating. Interment was at Sunnyside Cemetery, Cordele. Survivors include sons, Bert A. and Amby Jordan, and Terry and Karen Jordan, all of Fayetteville; a daughter, Cynthia and Matt McMurray, Valdosta; grandchildren, Rob A. Jordan, Amanda and James Jordan, and Isabella G. McMurray; and brother, Jim C. Murray, Cordele. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or The Katrina Relief Fund. Carl J.
