Bad Links? | Doing the right thing
Each Tuesday I attend an interdenominational pastors breakfast at 8 a.m. at IHOP in Fayetteville, hosted by Grey Harwell. Then, at noon the same day, I go to our Fairburn Baptist Association luncheon, hosted by Ron Wildes, our associational missionary. Both of these luncheons have their own flavor (no pun intended). Both have pastors and para-church people who all have one thing in common, and that is that they all want men and women to come to Christ. Each of them have their own personalities as God designed it and they all have their own talents and different ways of doing ministry. That, to me, is the God part of it all. Each year the Fairburn group hosts a golf classic which this year will be raising funds for Katrina victims. Now I love sports, maybe not as strongly as some, but as you know, I also have my strange hobbies. I have never really understood golf at any level and have never had any desire to learn it. My good friend, Paul Toth, says, you dont understand it because its a gentlemans sport. Touché, Paul, that hurt, but maybe its true. I have always wondered how they get 10,000 acres of grass all cut and forever green and all looking the same. However, my hobby list is long just ask my wife. Come take a peek into our garage if you dont believe me. On one side is our beautiful 1958 British Ferret armored car, and next to it is a 1943 World War II WACO CG-15A glider cockpit. Then the last third is all Dees treasures. Now that, gentlemen, in my most humble opinion, is true romance. Sometimes you do something just because it is the right thing to do. There is no payoff, there are no rewards heading your way, but you just do something because it is the right thing to do. Today in the mail, I received a long slim package that looked like a baseball bat wrapped up in brown paper. I looked at the return address and it was from my good friend Audry from Hinedale, Vermont. I had purchased the British Ferret from Audrey, who was handling the estate for a relative. When you purchase a military vehicle or any antique vehicle, you must try and get all the original parts with the vehicle or you will have to search the globe to find them. As we gathered all the pieces of the Ferret from a very large and busy garage, we noticed that there was a painted pick ax handle that was missing. This may not sound very exciting to some but this handle is part of the front of the pioneer gear of the Ferret and is the first thing you see right behind the gorgeous camouflaged headlights. Guess what was in the mail today: the lost painted pick ax handle. Sometimes you just do something because it is right! Thank you, Audrey, this means a lot to me. Last night was the last night of our very first revival at His House Community Church. It was a glorious time and we all were blessed beyond measure! Dr. Oscar Cope was our evangelist and Emanuel Williams was supplying the music. Both of these anointed men did a superb job. Sometimes you just do something because it is the right thing to do. At our revival our altar, at times, was full of worshipers in prayer, giving up to God all the baggage of life that we all carry around. If you measure spiritual success of a revival, I would say for those worshipers at our altar dealing with the baggage of life and going away free, it was a total success, because they were doing the right thing. (The churchs Web site is under construction temporarily and will be up and running again shortly.) [Dr. Knox Herndon is the pastor of His House Community Church (SBC). Dr. Dee Herndon is the Sunday School superintendent, Bible study coordinator and teacher. The church is located on GA. Highway 85 South near Senoia. As you leave Fayetteville going South on Hwy. 85, you cross Ga. Highway 16 at the Senoia intersection. It is a mile on the right just below the fire station.
