Bad Links? | PTC Panthers net another tournament titleThe fall YBOA season has been an exciting one for the PTC Panthers. The 12U team has now captured three consecutive tournament titles for this fall and has improved their 2005 record to 33-7. The most recent five game tournament was held in Duluth, Ga where teams from around the Atlanta area participated. The Panthers recorded a 3-1 record in pool play to place them in the first seed for the final game. The Panthers first game was offensively sound and they beat the N. Gwinnett team 51-38. In game two, the Panther's beat the Atlanta Titans 55-25 and was lead by Dylan Doxie who was the leading scorer for this game and for the tournament with his game high of 27pts (101 pts. overall). The Hurricanes then handed the first loss to the team by beating the Panthers 45-40 in what was a very close game throughout. On Sunday, the Panthers bounced back and beat the Southern Exposure 65-59. Chris Longoria demonstrated his ability to lead the team by hitting two key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and making several outstanding assists to help put the Panthers on top. The championship game was a rematch against the Hurricanes, but the outcome would be different. With key shots made by Drew Huefler and several blocked shots by Justin Jones, the Panthers were able to go on a 14-4 run in the final quarter. Other key plays were made throughout the weekend by Austin Smith, Trey Doxie and Daniel Brachey who made key defensive steals; Matty Darnowski who scored his game high in game two, and Drew Plaissance and Clint Tyler, who controlled the boards throughout the weekend. The Panthers travel back to Duluth next weekend where they will attempt to capture another title. |
