Builders host Holloway fundraiserMembers of the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia gathered at the Wyndham Hotel in Peachtree City recently for a Las Vegas-style Casino Night to raise money for the J.T. Holloway House, a home being constructed for 21-year-old quadriplegic J.T. Holloway and his family. Holloway a 260-lb. football-playing senior at Fayette County High School at the time was injured in an automobile accident in December of 2001. He has been confined to a wheelchair ever since. J.T.'s mother, Barbara, who teaches fourth grade at Spring Hill Elementary and father, Victor, an employee of Liberty Baptist Church, assisted by members of their immediate family, provide around-the-clock care for J.T. The plight of J.T. and his family came to the attention of members of the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia, and the organization's board of directors voted to build the residence. The home being constructed on five acres of land off Ga. Highway 85 in Fayette County donated to the project by Brent Scarborough & Company will be completely wheelchair-accessible and include special bathing and exercise facilities. In addition to the land, members of the HBA of Midwest Georgia are supplying all materials and labor for the house either free or at deeply discounted costs. The organization is holding a series of fundraising events with the proceeds going toward the construction. Jeff Betsill of Jeff Betsill Homes, a former president of the association, is administering and coordinating the project. The Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia serves builders in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Meriwether, Heard, Pike, Upson, Lamar, Butts and Jasper counties. For more information about the group or how to make contributions or donate materials or labor to the J.T. Holloway Project, contact Executive Officer Sandy Boda at the association office, 770-716-7109. |
