He was a 29-year Georgia Tech season ticket holder. He was ordained as a deacon in 1987 at New Hope Baptist Church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. Dwight Ike Reighard and the Rev. Clarence Jett officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen B. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. Maurice John SimmonsMaurice John Moe Simmons, 88, Peachtree City, formerly of Newark, Ohio, died Aug. 30, 2005. He was born June 25, 1917 in Johnstown, Ohio, the 4th of five children. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was an ironworker for over 30 years, having built many bridges, skyscrapers, and manufacturing plants. He was a member of Local Union #172 in Ohio, and the American Legion in Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Beatrice Becky Willard Simmons. They had traveled extensively and enjoyed weekly breakfast and golf trips with their friends of many years. They moved to Ashley Glen in Peachtree City in Feb., 2000. Memorial services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley chapel. Survivors include his children, Patricia and Larry Welsh, Peachtree City, Richard Simmons, and Marilyn Simmons, both of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and grandchildren, Richard and Maria Welsh, Atlanta, and Amy and Pete Hill, Sharpsburg. Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, 135 Bradford Square, Ste. Kari MaddoxKari Maddox, 18, Senoia, formerly of Fayette County, died Aug. 30, 2005 of acute respiratory distress syndrome. She was born Nov. 20, 1984 in Fayette County. She attended both Starrs Mill and East Coweta High School. She enjoyed writing, art, and spending time with friends. She will be remembered for her quick wit, kind heart, love for animals, and artistic talent. Survivors include her parents, Joel and Betty Maddox; and a brother, Ben Maddox. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge. Evelyn Johnson AskewEvelyn Johnson Askew, 89, Peachtree City, died Sept. 1, 2005. She was born Nov. 15, 1915 in Fulton County. Services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley chapel with the Rev. Joe Colley officiating. Interment was at Stockbridge City Cemetery. Survivors include children, James A. and Gwen Askew, Peachtree City, and Van Askew, Fayetteville; grandchildren, James A. Askew Jr., Newnan, Michael Brad Askew, and Heather Jane Morris, both of Gwinnett County; and five great-grandchildren. Floyd AddisonFloyd Addison, 75, Newnan, died Sept. 5, 2005. He was born July 22, 1930 in Haralson, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Reynolds Addison. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and a graduate of Georgia State University. Mr. Floyd, as he was known, began his professional career as the Controller of Beavers Packing Company, Newnan, which became Gold Kist. He then became the Controller of First National Bank, Newnan, later First Union Bank. He was instrumental in the start-up of Bank of Newnan, now Regional Bank, retiring as vice president. He was a member of the Civitan Club for a number of years and a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Udell Addison officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Survivors include a daughter, Donna and Jeff Stuart, Newnan; a grandson, Jay Jenkins, Newnan; and brother, the Rev. Udell Addison, Columbus. Memorial donations may be made to the Floyd Addison Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Heritage School, 2093 Hwy. 29 North, Newnan, GA 30263. This fund was established by the family to assist with educational expenses for children with financial needs. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
