Providence plans big anniversary weekendProvidence United Methodist Church will celebrate its 10th anniversary this weekend with an old-fashioned camp meeting from Friday, Sept. 9, through Sunday evening, Sept. 11. We are very blessed to be celebrating our first 10 years of ministry in Fayette County, said senior minister Dr. Jim Ellison. We hope that folks in the area who are looking for some good music, preaching, fun and fellowship will join us this weekend. Anniversary events will include a prayer meeting and gospel hymn sing Friday night at 7 p.m., followed by a watermelon cutting, as the church celebrates its past. Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., to celebrate the present, there will be childrens activities, Bluegrass music by the Suwanee River Boys and barbecue, followed by worship and traditional hymns at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Providence will look to the future beginning with special celebration worship services at 9 and 10:45 a.m. That afternoon at 4:30 p.m., a praise band will play and childrens activities begin, followed by a cookout at 5:30 p.m. The highlight of the afternoon will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, with the ground breaking for the new childrens building on the church campus. The building will include space for both the preschool and Mothers Morning Out programs, classrooms and nursery space, and a new worship center. In addition to the building, Providence will add new ball fields to its 105-acre campus. The camp meeting will conclude at 7 p.m. with a worship service featuring the childrens choir and praise music. Providence is in southern Fayette County on Bernhard Road, between Ga. Hwy, 85 and Redwine Road. For more information, call the church, 770-719-8800, or e-mail provumc@bellsouth.net.
