He was born June 25, 1917 in Johnstown, Ohio, the fourth of five children. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was an ironworker for over 30 years, having built many bridges, skyscrapers, and manufacturing plants. He was a member of Local Union #172 in Ohio, and the American Legion in Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Beatrice Becky Willard Simmons. They had traveled extensively and enjoyed weekly breakfast and golf trips with their friends of many years. They moved to Ashley Glen in Peachtree City in February, 2000. Memorial services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley chapel.
