Bad Links? | ESL students prepare for Hispanic festivalPeachtree City will sponsor the 5th Annual Hispanic Festival Saturday, Sept. 24, from 2-5 p.m. at Picnic Park behind City Hall. Students from the Adult English as a Second Language classes, along with representatives from the Peachtree City Library, have just completed preparations for the Festival. Betty Calderon has signed up people from 16 different Hispanic countries for cultural displays. Fanny Rada has an equal number cooking a vast variety of Hispanic dishes to offer festival attendees for free. Ana Maria Rincons family has provided cappuccino to all attendees for years. Last year the Rincon family won both the adult and child-level dance contests and will be vying for the honors again. There will be games, piñatas, songs, and maracas to make for children. The Starrs Mill Band will march in playing I want to be in America from West Side Story. Home schoolers will provide dessert. There will be a lemonade stand and El Ranchero will provide Mexican food. Fanny Rada and her husband Ernesto will make their incredible Ecuadorian Ceviche. To kick off the season Mayor Steve Brown will read a Hispanic proclamation at the City Council meeting Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in free Adult English as a Second Language classes sponsored by Griffin Technical College may call 770-487-8910. |
