Bad Links? | GDOT suspends lane closures for Labor Day weekendWith weekend construction at an all-time high, motorists will welcome a reprieve this weekend. Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl announced Wednesday that all scheduled and ongoing statewide construction-related lane closures have been suspended from this morning until Tuesday at 5 a.m. We want to make sure there is little to no inconvenience on our roadways and the highways are able to carry their full capacity for the weekend and Labor Day travelers, Linnenkohl said. This lane closure suspension includes all projects on I-285, I-20, I-85 and Ga. 400 in the metro area. The only exception would be for emergency maintenance work in the case of traffic accidents and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents. Since we will not have lane closures and we anticipate a more free-flowing interstate system, I implore motorists to be safe, slow down and pay attention when driving, Linnenkohl added.
