Bad Links? | ObituariesStalker ReedStalker Grandpa Reed, 87, Peachtree City, died Aug. 13, 2005, following complications after breaking his hip while playing with great-grandchildren in Seattle, Wash. He was born May 23, 1918 in Portland, Maine, and was reared in Mexico and Santa Fe, N.M. He was a 1941 graduate of Harvard, and was a Winthrop housemate of John F. Kennedy. He was a navigator during World War II and was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross for repeatedly crossing enemy lines near Indonesia. After the war he worked in industrial and real estate sales in Phoenix, Ariz. In 1978 he retired as a colonel in the United States Air Force reserves and moved in 2003 to Peachtree City. He became an avid fan of Starrs Mill sports, watching his granddaughters play volleyball and cheer. Services were in Phoenix, Ariz. at the National Military Cemetery. Survivors include five children scattered in five states; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Barton Funeral Home, Seattle, Wash., was in charge. He had been baptized at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Lillian Owens Nisby; and brothers, Herman Nisby, Raymond Nisby, and Leroy Nisby. He was reared by his grandmother, Agnes Nisby, Gibson, La. He enjoyed gardening and cooking, and had worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years. Services were at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, Jonesboro, with the Rev. Father Gregory officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. She was born in Magoffin County, Ky., the 7th of 10 children of the late Robert Benton and Leora Bailey Mullins. Reared in Kentucky, she moved to Washington D. C. at age 17 to work in the Pentagon for the United States Department of the Army. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Edward L. Allrid, whom she had married July 6,1946. Graveside services were at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro. Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Grace Allrid and Robert Lee Jardine, Sylva, N. C.; a grandson, Michael Gordon Jardine, Sylva; a granddaughter, Elyse Nicole Jardine, Cullowhee, N. C.; two brothers; two sisters; a brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
