Bad Links? | PTC Panthers win two more hoops tournament titlesThe 12U PTC Panthers basketball team starts the fall season with a bang by winning two consecutive YBOA tournaments. The first fall tournament, "End of Summer Classic", was held in Columbus, Ga on Aug. 13-14 where the Panthers remained undefeated to capture the title. The Panthers strong offense and their aggressive style defense allowed them to beat teams from Columbus, Hart County, and LaGrange. After a very physical first half during the championship game, the Panthers defense took control and dominated the second half allowing for several fast breaks to widen the score. On Aug. 20-21, the Panthers traveled north to Canton and Waleska, Ga to win the YBOA's "Fall #1 Series. After losing the opener, the Panthers fought back to win four straight games to take the trophy home. With two minutes remaining in the second quarter in Saturday evenings final game against Columbus, star athlete, Zach Laskey was injured. He will be out for several weeks. The boys decided at half time they were going to win the game for Zach and they did just that. Trailing by 11 points at half time, the Panthers went on a 30-9 second half run to win the game and qualify for the semi-finals the next afternoon. The team continued to play well in both playoff games and out scored both teams by 119-64 during the two games. "Zach is a coach's "dream player. Not only is he a gifted athlete, he's such a great kid. We just can't wait to have him back playing with us," said coaches DeMarco Doxie and Jerry Jones. The Panthers improve their 2005 season record to 29-6 and have captured four tournament championships and one runner-up trophy thus far. The team travels to Suwanee on Sept. 8-9 to compete in the "#2 Fall Series". |
