Bad Links? | City to get SPLOST funds from countyBy JOHN MUNFORD Peachtree City will receive its Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax payments from Fayette County as frequently as the funds are released by the state Department of Revenue, in a deal brokered between the county and the city. The county will disburse the payments to Peachtree City equal to the citys share of the 30 percent take that will be divided among the cities and the unincorporated county. The remaining 70 percent of the funds will go towards the countys road improvement plan. Peachtree Citys share is projected to be about $12 million, and as the largest city in the county it will get 34.6 percent of the SPLOST funds dedicated to the cities. Each citys share, and a similar share for the unincorporated area of the county, is calculated by population results from the 2000 Census. The SPLOST revenues from the one-cent sales tax approved last year by voters will be disbursed by the county to each individual municipality. One of the biggest SPLOST projects for 2006 is the realignment of Rockaway Road and Ga. Highway 74, with an estimated tab of $536,180. The road will be realigned with the intersection of Hwy. 74 and Holly Grove Road. Other SPLOST projects planned for this year include the construction of a cart path bridge over Ga. Highway 54 West near the entrance to the Wynnmeade subdivision. The project totals $618,200, but $480,000 of that will come from grant funds, meaning only $138,200 is needed in SPLOST funds. The citys street resurfacing program, estimated at $637,097, is also on the SPLOST project list, along with $127,900 to upgrade the citys cart path system. |
