Cathy H. Falzone, a fourth-grade teacher at Sara Harp Minter Elementary School of Fayette County Schools, has won one of five PAGE Graduate Scholarships. The $1,000 scholarships are awarded through the PAGE Foundation to PAGE members pursuing advanced degrees in education who agree to teach in Georgia for three years. Falzone is a resident of Fayetteville and is pursuing an Ed.S. in leadership and administration at the Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn. Rita Marie Gunter, a bus driver for the school system, has won one of two PAGE Support Personnel Scholarships. The $1,000 scholarships are awarded through the PAGE Foundation to PAGE members pursuing advanced degrees in education who agree to teach in Georgia for three years. She is a middle grades education major at Mercer Universitys Douglas County campus. Tom Wommack, president of the PAGE Foundation, noted that each year the 61,000-member organization awards more than $15,000 in scholarships. Our members continue to recognize the importance of supporting educators in their efforts to improve their teaching skills through the pursuit of advanced degrees, Wommack said. Our members also know and appreciate the important role that support personnel play in education. We are proud to recognize these individuals through our scholarship program and assist them in their efforts to become professionally certified educators. Through its sponsorship of Future Educators of America in Georgia (FEA in GA), Student Professional Association of Georgia Educators (SPAGE) and PAGE Foundation Scholarships, the PAGE Foundation works to recruit capable people to the teaching profession and provide career-long professional learning opportunities for educators. The PAGE Foundation also sponsors academic competitions for students including PAGE STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition), the PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon (GAD) and the PAGE Academic Bowl for Middle Grades. PAGE is an independent, nonunion statewide professional association of more than 61,000 teachers, administrators and support personnel members. |
