Bad Links? | Senoia puts the brakes on commercial zoningBy JOHN THOMPSON The city of Senoia decided Monday night to take a breather when it comes to commercial rezoning requests. City administrator Richard Ferry said he had been talking with the citys planner Bill Johnston about design standards for new commercial enterprises in the city. Ferry asked the council for a 90-day moratorium on all new commercial building permits on the Ga. Highway 85 and 16 corridor until he could get some of the suggested changes drafted into an ordinance. Ferry said hes mainly looking at exterior materials, landscaping and pedestrian access for all new commercial areas and believes 90 days would give him an ample time to study the issue. Councilman Robert Belisle asked if there was any existing commercial applications in the works. Ferry said the only two the city had on file was for a car was on Ga. Highway 16 and Bridge Street and for the existing commercial development in front of the Cumberland subdivision on Hwy. 16. City attorney Drew Whalen also explained that any ordinance change would require two reads, so 30 days would be used for public hearings. Ferry said that he would have no problem getting the changes to Whalen in a timely manner. The moratorium will last until the middle of November. |
