What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Take a gamble with Kenny RogersAn American legacy at The Villages
By LINDSAY BIANCHI Through the years, Kenny Rogers has dabbled in many creative ventures, from film to television to radio. His warm and heartfelt stories in song translate well to the visual medium. Like The Gambler, which spawned several films for television starring Rogers in the lead role, Kennys genuine presence inhabits every project he does. See for yourself what makes Kenny Rogers such a beloved entertainer when The Villages Amphitheater welcomes him to Fayetteville Saturday night at 9 p.m. In a career that spans four decades, Rogers has had many solo hits as well as duets with female vocalists like Dolly Parton, Dottie West, and Kim Carnes. Released in June of 2004, 42 Ultimate Hits has a generous sampling of his pairings with these stars along side other favorites that reach way back to his New Edition days in the late 60s. Originally with the New Christy Minstrels, Kenny Rogers and the First Edition formed after leaving some of the Minstrels behind. Its been a long and varied road from Kennys first hit, I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In), which launched the New Edition into orbit with a psychedelia-tinged sound Rogers was soon to abandon. A few years later, with a few more hits under his belt like Ruby, Dont Take Your Love To Town, and Reuben James, Kenny moved on to pus a promising solo career. It was then that he truly came into his own, embracing the balladeer side of his character by giving us many memorable songs such as She Believes in Me, Islands in the Stream, Weve Got Tonight, Through The Years, You Decorated My Life, and Lady. Since forming his own record company, Dreamcatcher Entertainment in 1999, Rogers has added more classics to his already giant list of recordings. "The Greatest, a song about a young boys baseball experience made people realize that Rogers talent for writing meaningful melodies was something he would never lose. A number one hit followed with "Buy Me a Rose," proving that great tunes never go out of style. Kenny Rogers takes the Villages stage at 9 p.m. Opening for Kenny will be country singer and Newnan resident Bobby Walden at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the door. Lawn seats are available at the door for $45 or $40 in advance. Gates open at 7 p.m. For more information about this and other Villages events, visit www.villagesamphitheater.com. | | |
