Bad Links? | No Fville Council warrants after allBy BEN NELMS Its another twist in a months-long saga that is likely far from over. Warrant applications filed against Fayettevilles mayor, City Council members and city manager last week by former Fayetteville Police Officer Harold Simmons alleging misfeasance and malfeasance were dismissed by Simmons Monday. Simmons said his move to dismiss the charges resulted from legal advice he obtained. After seeking legal representation I was advised by the attorney to dismiss the warrants for misfeasance and malfeasance on the mayor, council and city manager at this time and let the EEOC investigation take its course, said Simmons. Simmons filed the warrant applications last week after announcing his intention to do so at the July 21 council meeting. At odds first with former Police Chief Johnny Roberts over Simmons firing in April, Simmons filed federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaints against the city alleging discrimination. Simmons issues with Mayor Kenneth Steele and council members continued when he was not reinstated to his position in the department. Simmons is awaiting an EEOC investigation in the matter. The date for the investigation has not been announced. |
