Bad Links? | Local woman killed in one-car crashBy LEE WILLIAMS Fayette County traffic investigators this week logged the fifth fatal motor vehicle crash in unincorporated Fayette County this year. Kay M. King, 47, of Fayetteville, is the latest person to die on Fayette County roads during a time of year that's classified as the 101 deadliest days of summer. The term is used by law enforcement officials and traffic experts to describe a time period from Memorial Day to Labor Day when the highest number of traffic-related fatalities occur. King, the driver of a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country mini van, was traveling west on Moonview Place alone when she struck a legally parked and unoccupied 1998 Nissan Maxima for reasons unknown, Capt. Bryan Woodie said. The accident occurred at 2:17 a.m. Monday near Young Circle about three miles south of the city of Fayetteville, Woodie said. "After striking the parked car, Mrs. King's vehicle continued forward and struck a brick column at a location on Moonview Place," Woodie said. "Mrs. King, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from her vehicle and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where she later died from her injuries." King is the fourth person who has died from injuries she received in a motor vehicle collision in unincorporated Fayette County since June 17, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Department Traffic Enforcement Division.
