Bad Links? | Tyrone dojo well represented at state gamesNot a bad day for our competitors, said Dave Wojcik, sensei and head coach at Ippon Judo, Jujitsu and Karate located in Tyrone, Ga. Wojcik sent three competitors to the state games and they made the most of their opportunity. Starting off the day was Cody Wojcik. A fifth grader at Tyrone Elementary, Cody took gold in his 9-10 division. He went undefeated for his fifth state title. Cody then tried his hand at a heavier division where he placed second, going 2-1 amd losing in the finals. Next for Ippon was 12-year-old Aaron Ringel. A seventh grader at Flat Rock Middle School. Ringel placed second not only in his weight class but also managed silver in the weight class above him. The last of Ippons students competing was Derek Wojcik. Derek is an eighth grader at Flat Rock who won the 13-14 yr old division by going undefeated. He then went up in weight and won that division as well. The older Wojcik went 6-0 and won five by full points. For Derek it was his ninth state title in the last four years, Derek was shooting for his second national title this past weekend as Georgia hosted the Junior Olympics at the Gwinett Civic Center.
