What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Sordid Lives makes southside debut in Newnan
When Peggy, a good Christian woman, hits her head on the sink and bleeds to death after tripping over her lovers wooden legs in a motel room, chaos erupts in Winters, Texas. Del Shore, the author of Daddys Dyin (Whos Got the Will?), brings us another Southern comedy, Sordid Lives at Newnan Community Theatre Company beginning Friday and running through August 7. Nominated for over 30 awards during its long run in Los Angeles, Sordid Lives, now a cult classic, was made into a film in 2000 starring Leslie Jordan, Delta Burke, Beau Bridges, Olivia Newton-John and Bonnie Bedelia. If this grouping of actors sound a bit odd, its only because the characters, themselves, are all over the map. From the Tammy Wynette obsessed Brother Boy to the cantankerous G.W. Nethercott, this mixed-up yarn is bound to keep everyone guessing, between all the laughs. The L.A. Times said of Del Shore and his play. His colorful eccentrics are dead on, teetering on a Bowie knifes edge between the hilariously improbable and the achingly real. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors In the Black Box performance space. This show is rated R for language and hilarious adult situations. Newnan Community Theatre is located at 24 First Avenue in Newnan. | | |
