Mission teams help in U.S., Mexico, Central AmericaFor the past several months, groups from First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City have traveled out of state and internationally, completing hands-on missions in various parts of the world. The senior high youth, working with Lonetree Ministries, participated in team building and support activities both in New Mexico and in Juarez, Mexico near El Paso, Texas. In three days, the group constructed a home for a family of nine, provided Bible school activities for the children, and enjoyed fellowship with children from a local orphanage where they provided a meal on site. The middle school youth recently teamed up with Youth Works in Chattanooga to participate in relational urban ministries. For a week, the combined group of 65 youngsters worked with the Headstart program, the Boys and Girls Clubs, and nursing homes in the city. They also were involved with the cleanup of a nature preserve in the area. In April, a group of five members from First Presbyterian traveled to San Salvador, El Salvador, to lend a hand at the LoveLink, an organization founded in 1987 by Samuel and Julie Hawkins. LoveLink takes in malnourished infants and toddlers and gives them round-the-clock care under the supervision of medical and nutritional staff. The Peachtree City mission team supported the caregivers (nineras), providing basic care for the children during the week long trip. For the past seven years, groups from First Presbyterian have been going into Reynosa, Mexico and helping with local projects. In June, another group teamed up with Puentes de Cristo, an organization which offers local families programs in education, nutrition and job skills. The Peachtree City group joined in ongoing construction projects and provided Bible school for local children. |
