Bad Links? | More I-85 work this weekend By BEN NELMS Construction work will continue on I-85 this weekend. Georgia Department of Transportation crews will have the ramps closed at Ga. Highway 74 on the northbound side of the expressway. Lanes along southbound I-85 will be closed in two locations between I-285 and Hwy. 74. Traffic delays will be the order of the day. DOT spokesperson Karlene Barron said the northbound ramps at Hwy. 74 will be closed beginning tonight at 9 p.m. They will remain closed for construction, weather permitting, until 5 a.m. Monday. The usual alternative routes in Palmetto and Union City are advised. Extreme delays are expected in the area. Lane closures along southbound I-85 will also occur this weekend. Barron said the two left lanes will be closed from near I-285 to Flat Shoals Road while the two right lanes will be closed from Ga. Highway 138 to Hwy. 74. Work in the area will involve dressing and final striping of the southbound lanes, she said. Motorists should expect significant delays as a result of the construction activities. The entire project is expected to be completed in September. For more information, visit www.dot.ga.us or www.georgia-navigator.com or call 404-463-4939.
