Builders award scholarshipsThe Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia recognized the 11 recipients of the associations 2005 scholarships at its June meeting, held recently at Glendalough Manor in Tyrone. The event featured Dr. Randy Ross, vice president/regional recruiting manager of HomeBanc Mortgage, which sponsored the event, as keynote speaker. Ross spoke to the graduates of the importance of aligning their lives for a purpose and getting the most out of their lives. The list of 2005 winners included Bethany Barnard, McIntosh High School; Brittany Barnard, Starrs Mill High School; Jodi-Ann Bigby, Sandy Creek High School; Jordan Waddle, Fayette County High School; Jorge Duran-Colindres, Emily England and Kristin Perry, Northgate High School; Hayden Hinton, East Coweta High School; Jarvis Jennings III and Deangelo Sanchez, Newnan High School; and Brittany Crawford, Pike County High School. The scholarship recipients were introduced by Gene Barber, a past president of the association who serves as chairman of the scholarship committee. The associations $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year to graduating seniors from the area served by the association who are entering a college in the state of Georgia. Employees of businesses related to the building industry and/or students interested in field of study related to the industry receive preference for scholarships. The scholarship program, which is funded by the associations Scholarship House project, was initiated in 1984, and to date, the association has awarded 188 scholarships totaling $251,500. The Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia serves builders in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Meriwether, Heard, Pike, Upson, Lamar, Butts and Jasper counties.
