Bad Links? | Lightning come up short in quest for second titleBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The season ended on a disappointing note for the Southern Crescent Lightning as their hopes of repeating as WBA champions were dashed by the Mississippi Hardhats in overtime of their semi-final game. The Lightning, the eastern Conference champions, had a bye in the first round and defeated the Cleveland Majic 146-137 in overtime. Four Lightning players scored over 20 points in the win with Nate Williams dropping 28 points, Dajan Smith reaching a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds, Marcus Taylor adding 25 points and Jonathan Hargett chipping in 23 points. The win put the Lightning in the semifinals against the Hardhats. The Lightning tied the Hardhats at 113 by the end of regulation. The team then stormed to an eight point lead in overtime before falling to Mississippi 13-127. The Lightning finished the season with a record of 17-9. It was the teams second consecutive appearance in the WBA Final Four. |
