PTC United Methodist launches three summer mission teamsThis summer, three Mission Teams from Peachtree City UMC are sharing the gospel and serving the people of Olive Hill, Ky., South Africa, and Mozambique and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Freshman and sophomore students from Crosswalk Student Ministries leave this month for the Laurel Gorge Workcamp in Olive Hill, Ky. to perform six days of hands-on home repair for low-income families in desperate need. Some of the projects will include constructing porches and wheelchair ramps, interior and exterior painting, building and repairing steps and other home repairs. Two weeks ago, on June 24, a team of adults, youth and children (the youngest is four) left for Johannesburg, South Africa, to participate in a church building program, work in an AIDS ministry and help with a feeding program for the poor. Following their mission work there, the team will then travel to Mozambique to work on a communications center to support Methodist churches in the area and offer a Vacation Bible School for the local children. A senior high youth trip will leave Aug. 23 to travel to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, for an eight-day service expedition working in areas which have been hit hard by recent hurricanes. Members of the group will perform home repairs and community service in economically depressed areas of the country. |
