He served in the United States Marine Corps under the 11th Expeditionary Unit, 3rd LAAD Battalion at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, Calif. It was one of the first deployed units during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a student at the Art Institute of Atlanta, pursing a Culinary Arts Degree. He was a parishioner at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City. Services were at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Diosmar Natad officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include parents, James and Norma Hiett, Fayetteville; a brother, Roderick Dye, Forest Park; sisters, Penny Dye, Fayetteville, and Barbie Dye, Forest Park; stepmother, Evangeline Dye, Forest Park; and grandparents, Tita Arreglo, Fayetteville, and James W. and Clara Hiett, Jonesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon E. Smith, and a son, Dwain Smith. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Bill Priester and the Rev. Tony Lankford officiating. Interment was at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Forest Park. Survivors include her children, Howell and Debbie Richardson, Fayetteville, Melissa K. Smith, Marietta, and Randy and Cheryl Smith, McDonough; grandchildren, Jeffery Richardson, Jackson, Allen Richardson, Fayetteville, and Evan Smith, McDonough; a great-granddaughter, Jessica L. Peggy WhitworthPeggy Whitworth, 73, Senoia, died June 28, 2005. She was born July 20, 1931 in Madison County, Ala. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro. Survivors include her husband, L. C. Whitworth, Senoia; sons, Mickey Gene Whitworth, Senoia, and Jim Whitworth, Fayetteville; a daughter, Sandra Fryer, Griffin; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Bentley, Huntsville, Ala.; and two nieces. She was born Oct. 31, 1923 in Alpharetta to William Arthur and Sabra Chadwick Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Felton Hill, two brothers, and three sisters. She was retired from the United States Postal Service and had been a rural mail carrier in Senoia for many years. In her later years, she became a very talented painter, and also enjoyed flower gardening and shopping at yard sales. She was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Frank Powers officiating. Interment was at the Senoia City Cemetery. Survivors include sons, Marty Gibbs, Fayetteville, and Robert Rocky and Sharon Hill, Senoia; a daughter, Vicki Hill Whitlock, Senoia; a brother, A. J. Martin, Dallas, Texas; a sister, Anne Myers, McDonough; grandchildren, Jennifer Gibbs Burns, Mount Lake Terrace, Wash., Brannon Whitlock, and Kelly and Lisa Hill, all of Senoia; and two great-grandsons.
