Bad Links? | Drexinger to address Fayette Democratic WomenGuy Drexinger, candidate for Georgia insurance commissioner, will address the Fayette Democratic Women at their July breakfast meeting, Saturday at 9 a.m. at Right on Thyme Restaurant in Fayetteville. He will speak about his campaign and outline his goals for the State Insurance Commissioners office. Drexinger has spent most of his life as a resident of Cobb County. After graduating from the University of Floridas College of Business Administration with a degree in economics, Drexinger attended Georgia State University where he studied accounting, and soon after became a Certified Public Accountant. After being in business with his father, Bernard, who had earlier started a tax accounting practice, Drexinger returned to Mercer University where he received his law degree in 1992. After graduating from law school, he returned to Marietta where he established his solo law practice, concentrating on small business law and estate planning and administration. During the 20 years that he has practiced as a CPA and attorney, he has helped several thousand individuals and small businesses meet their accounting, financial, and legal needs. Over the last 30 years, Drexinger has been active in the Cobb County community. From 1986-1989, he served as Treasurer for Step-Up, Inc., an organization working with teens through the Cobb County Juvenile Court. After law school, Drexinger served as a basketball coach for 7 and 8-year olds (1993-2000) with the Boys and Girls Club in Marietta, and he now serves as a board member of the Boys and Girls Clubs in Cobb County. His other volunteering efforts have included serving on the Wellstar Foundation Board, teaching estate planning & administration at North Metro Technical School in Acworth, and speaking at the Marietta Alternative School. He was recently appointed to the Cobb Workforce Board. He and his wife Chris have a 14-year-old daughter, Lauren. They attend St. Josephs Church in Marietta. After thinking through the many insurance-related issues facing Georgias citizens and businesses, I have decided that the time is right for someone with my background to aggressively tackle these issues head-on. Drexinger stated. He added, Over the last several years, Georgians have witnessed escalating insurance costs that appear to have gone unchecked. While the cost of insurance has risen, so too has the number of individuals without insurance. Today in Georgia, we pay more for insurance than ever before. In addition, we have record numbers of uninsured Georgia motorists and Georgians who have no health insurance. Drexinger believes that to resolve the very complicated issues that have brought us to this point will take someone with a financial and problem-solving background, someone who is removed from the insurance industry, yet someone who understands insurance issues. He stated, Since July, 2004, I have been discussing the insurance needs and concerns with business owners all over Georgia. I will continue to spend this time with Georgia's businesses in order to listen and learn of their needs and concerns as it relates to their insurance requirements. I have also begun speaking to various groups throughout the state about plans that I have to help address some of the issues outlined above. Fayette Democratic Women invites all interested women in the south metro area to attend their meeting. A continental breakfast will be served for $3 per person beginning at 9 a.m. The meeting will be called to order at 9:20. The group meets on the second Saturday of every month for breakfast at Right on Thyme. The restaurant is located at 174 N. Glynn Street (Ga. Highway 85) in Fayetteville.
