Bad Links? | Iraq vet killed in motorcycle crashBy LEE WILLIAMS Officials say alcohol might have caused a motorcycle crash in Tyrone that killed a 23-year-old man Sunday, pushing 2005s traffic-related death toll in unincorporated Fayette County to four. Bycent Adrian Dye, the driver of a 2003 Yamaha V-Star, was traveling north on Kirkley Road just south of Bohannon Road about 1 a.m. when he crossed the centerline in a curve and ran off of the left side of the road into a ditch, officials said. He flipped off the bike and impacted a tree, Fayette County Sheriffs Department Traffic Enforcement Director Lt. Col. Wayne Hannah said. Hannah said Dye was wearing a helmet and he was traveling alone at the time of the accident. Mr. Dye sustained severe injuries and was transported by Rescue Air One to Atlanta Medical Center where he later died. No other injuries were reported. Officials are waiting for lab results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime lab to determine if Dye was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. It will take several weeks to get the test results back from the State Crime Lab, Hannah said. The news of Dyes death devastated several residents including Randy Richter of Fayetteville who said he loved Dye and wanted him to be remembered for the life he led and not the circumstances surrounding his death. Dye, a former U.S. Marine who served with the 11th Expeditionary Unit, 3rd LAAD Battalion at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif., had recently served 18 months in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dye, who had ties to Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Fairburn, was classified as adventurous, by those who knew him. Dye was a culinary arts student at the Art Institute of Atlanta and worked at Carinos in Fayetteville, his friends said. He had just closed on a house and was well on his way to becoming an upstanding member of his community, Richter said. He was a proud Marine, who served. God bless him. Dyes friends said he will be missed. Funeral services for Dye will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens. Carl J. Mowell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. |
