Bad Links? | Benefit ride is this weekendBy BEN NELMS Plans are laid for benefit fundraiser Sunday geared to make a difference. Members of the Blaze-N-Blood Riders motorcycle club are set to take to the roads of South Fulton and Coweta to benefit their friend Amanda Dodson, diagnosed five months ago with colon cancer. Her paid leave time at Delta now exhausted, Fairburn firefighter and club member Jamie Tidwell said the benefit is intended to help offset Amandas expenses. Registration for the 56-mile event will begin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Fairburns fire station No. 21, located at 19 E. Broad Street, near the intersection with Ga. Highway 92. Riders will leave the station at 2 p.m., heading south on U.S. Highway 29 to the Ga. Highway 34 bypass in Newnan. Riders will make their way onto Roscoe Road, then onto to Capps Ferry in South Fulton. The final leg of the fundraiser will have riders on Ga. Highway 166 and then into Fairburn and Duncan Park, where hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be served for riders. Tidwell said non-riders wishing to make a contribution can do so at the fire station prior to the event or at the park at the end of the event. Tidwell said the cost is $20 for single riders and $30 for those with a passenger. Blaze-N-Blood Riders motorcycle club formed in August 2004. The club is 60 members-strong with its roles filled with public safety staff from around metro Atlanta. The benefit Sunday will be the clubs third since its inception. Additional information about the fundraiser can be obtained by contacting firefighter Joey Highnote at (678) 409-9452. |
