Bad Links? | Fairburn creeps closer to FayetteBy BEN NELMS Fairburn council members voted Monday to approve the annexation and rezoning of 10.41 acres just south of Milam Road on the east side of Ga. Highway 74. The property will likely be developed for retail use. City administrator Jim Williams told council members that the property is current surrounded on three sides by property inside the city limits. The property is bordered on the north by Bank of Georgia and on the south by Kaiser Chiropractic. Property agent Tom Selmer told council members the site might be divided into three or four parcels with the largest of those situated toward the rear, or the easternmost section, of the property. Selmer said retail businesses are the goal for the development. He said further studies are required and that there are no current buyers to date. Williams said the move was consistent with the citys policy and zoning on the Hwy. 74 corridor. The vote was contingent on the development meeting seven standard conditions. Approval of the annexation and rezoning was recommended by city staff and the Fairburn Planning commission. The Fairburn council approved the rezoning of 19.87 acres adjacent to the northeast corner of Milam Road and Hwy. 74 in March. Tentative plans for the development include subdividing the acreage into four parcels, with a proposed 60,000 square-foot retail business located on the largest parcel, totaling 14.4 acres. |
