Bad Links? | Gibbs announces bid for Weeds seatA Peachtree City resident is throwing his hat into the ring to run for a City Council seat in November. Daniel Gibbs, an information systems manager and bankruptcy attorney, will run for the post 4 seat currently held by Murray Weed. A 14-year resident of the city, Gibbs is the husband of Fayette Chamber of Commerce President Virginia Gibbs. Daniel Gibbs is the information systems manager for a Chapter 13 Trustees Office for Northern Georgia. He is also the chairman of the technology committee of the Atlanta Bar Association. With 15 years as an attorney and manager under his best, Gibbs said he is confident he is ready to lead the city through its transition from a new and growing community into a stable and redeveloping community. After all, planning and successfully negotiating transition is what I do best, he said. To preserve the quality of life in the city, a long-term plan must be developed to focus on issues such as the needs of the aging population in the city, job growth and retention, and maintaining the citys high standards in education, recreation and entertainment, Gibbs said. Having a plan in place fosters balanced and consistent decision making, Gibbs said. While Gibbs is running for Weeds seat, Weed said last week he has not yet decided if he will run for re-election as he is considering a bid for a higher office. Councilman Steve Rapson has said he will run again for election, but no one has announced plans to oppose him. The Gibbs are active members of First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City, where Dan Gibbs has recently served in leadership roles such as church elder and deacon.
