Bad Links? | Fayette warns against Senoia densityBy JOHN THOMPSON The explosive growth of nearby Senoia is showing up on the radar screen of the Fayette County Commission. During Thursday nights meeting, the commission was briefed on the Twin Lakes development that is planned for Rockaway Road, a two-lane road that runs into Peachtree Citys southwestern border and intersects with Ga. Highway 74 just north of Starrs Mill school complex. With more than 600 homes planned, the development falls under the category of Development of Regional Impact, which is why adjacent jurisdictions are asked to weigh in on the project. Commission chairman Greg Dunn made it clear that the growth concerns him, and he is also worried about a possible sewer deal between Senoia and Peachtree City. That could allow for even more growth in that area on smaller lots, he said. In a letter to the Chattahoochee-Flint Regional Development Center, Dunn said the greatest impact would be on the already-congested Rockaway Road. There have been 89 accidents from 1998 to 2004 at the intersection. The realignment of Rockaway Road to Holly Grove Road, which has an existing traffic signal, would improve safety at this intersection, Dunn wrote. Dunn closed the letter by saying that the developer should be required to help pay for improvements at the intersection if the development is allowed to occur. |
