Bad Links? | More parking coming to McCurryBy LEE WILLIAMS Walking enthusiasts soon wont have to navigate around automobiles often parked on a portion of the walking trail at McCurry Park, thanks to a new parking lot now under construction. Last week, construction crews began moving dirt around in preparation for the 20-space parking lot that will be built next to a large pavilion at McCurry Parks picnic area. The lot will be a few feet from County Line Road, off of McDonough Road in Fayette County. Were expanding our parking lot area for the McCurry picnic area, said Anita Godbee, director of the Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department. It used to be McElroy Road, but they closed a portion of it to realign County Line Road and McElroy Road, and were using it as a parking lot for the people who reserve picnic space. The parking lot is listed on the FY 2005 budget, Godbee added. The parking lot should be completed by the end of summer, given the rainy weather. It will cost about $30,000 to construct. The parking lot will be a plus for residents who love to walk along the walking trail. It will also be a plus for picnickers who have to walk quite a ways from the pavilion to the current parking area, Godbee indicated. |
