Prudential honors local students for volunteer community serviceA trio of students from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School in Fayette County were recently honored for their volunteer service by the 2005 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Recipients of the award were Brett Bartels, 17, of Fayetteville, a junior at Our Lady of Mercy; Morgan Conkle, 18, of Fayetteville, a senior; and Anthony McMillan, 18, of Fayetteville, also a senior. The awards are presented annually by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Each of the Our Lady of Mercy school recipients also received a Presidents Volunteer Service Award from the Presidents Council on Service and Civic Participation which recognizes Americans who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. NASSP executive director Gerald Tirozzi said, We believe a thorough education includes many activities that occur outside the classroom. Were proud of these students because they recognize how important it is to play an active role in their communities by using their skills and talents to benefit others.
