Bad Links? | Next week is National Bike to Work weekFayette Biking for Life, Inc. (FBL), a cycling club based in Fayette County, would like to make everyone aware that May is National Bike Month, that May 16-20 is National Bike to Work Week and May 20 is National Bike to Work Day. As our society moves somewhat away from the urban sprawl and more toward a lifestyle where we live, work, shop and play in the same community, bicycles are becoming a convenient, practical, and fun way to get around. As an alternative to motor vehicles, bicycles offer a healthy and non-polluting means of transportation. FBL urges all cyclists and aspiring cyclists to take advantage of the observance of National Bike Week to use a bicycle to get to work. A good source of information to help you plan biking to work can be found at www.bike-to-work.com. Another excellent source is your local bicycle shop, which will be glad to help you with routing and having the right gear to ride safely. If cycling to work isnt practical, perhaps you could consider taking your bike along and riding part way, or going for a ride at lunchtime. If none of this works for you, use your bike on a shopping trip or other outing that allows you to leave your car parked. One objective is to raise awareness of the fact, particularly among motorists, that bicycles are vehicles. They have the same rights and observe the same rules as motor vehicles. Another objective is to demonstrate that bicycles offer lots of benefits to the rider in that they foster good physical and mental health while offering and alternative means of transportation. More information about National Bike Month can be found at on the web at www.bikemonth.com. The mission of Fayette Biking for Life Club is to encourage a close knit cycling community in and around Fayette County, Georgia. To this end, the club will promote safe cycling habits among all types and levels of cyclists, will advocate the development of cycling-friendly roads and cycling recreation areas, and foremost will provide a meeting point for all riders interested in cycling for health and recreation. For more information about the club, visit the web site at www.bikingforlife.org. |
