What do you think of this story? | Fayette Recreation in full swingThe Fayette County Parks & Recreation Department offers a wide range of activities for the entire family. Whether you enjoy soccer, softball, karate or yoga, there are many times and age groups for athletic endeavors. Painting and pottery classes as well as practical instruction in such areas babysitting and drivers safety promise something for everyone. The Winter/Summer/ Fall brochure is available at the Fayette Parks & Recreation Department office, Administration Complex, Fayette County Library, and area school offices. The following is a quick listing of upcoming classes. Kiwanis Park will host several sports programs for children. Little Rookies Soccer & Baseball Program begins June 7 for ages 3 and 4 years. Little Sluggers Baseball Camp begins June 13 for ages 4 to 6 years. Little Kickers Soccer Camp begins July 18 for ages 4 to 6 years. Kiwanis Recreation Center will offer several different activities including All-Star Karate. Sessions for All-Star Karate begin May 18 and July 13 for children age 5 & older. Sessions for Karate instruction, ages 15 and older begin May 3, June 2, July 5, and August 2. Dog obedience sessions begin June 15 and August 31 for ages 10 and older. Pottery class sessions, ages 15 and older begin August 1 and August 2. Jewels of Africa African culture classes begin June 4 and August 6 for ages 5 and older. Classes at the Activities House include: Babysitter training with sessions beginning June 11 and August 13 for ages 11 - 15 years; Get up & speak, sessons beginning June 27 and July 25 for ages 12 - 18 years; Yoga a.m. & p.m., sessions beginning May 9, July 11, May 11, and July 13 for ages18 & older; Pilates A.M., sessions begin May 13 for ages 18 & older; Masters intellectual disabilities Field Trip Camp runs the week of June 20 to 24 for ages 22 & older; AARP Driver safety program runs two sessions May 9-10 and May 23 -24 for ages 55 & older. Also at the Activities House will be Painting with Lydia: Watercolor a.m., sessions beginning June 2 and July 21 for ages 16 & older; Oil painting a.m., sessions beginning June 1 and July 20 for ages 16 & older; and Oil painting p.m., sessions beginning June 2 and July 21 for ages 16 & older. Kiwanis Tennis Courts offers courses June 6-9, June 13-16, June 20-23, June 27-30, July 11-14, and July 18-21 for Pee Wee tennis, ages 4 - 7 years; Junior tennis academy, ages 5 & older; Youth tennis, ages 8 & older; and Adult tennis, ages 18 & older. Teen tennis classes will be held June 6-9, June 20-23, and July 11-14 for ages 13 & older. Tennis Drills are held May 3-27 and August 2-26 for ages18 & older Kiwanis Pavilion is holding a Super snakes (includes live animals) demonstration July 14 from 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. All ages welcome! The Lafayette Learning Center offers Girls Volleyball beginning May 14 for 11 - 14 year olds, and at Lake Horton Recreation Tree Climbing the 2nd Sunday of every month from 2 - 5 p.m. for ages 7 & older. Summer Flag Football League begins May 2 at $275 per team. Fall Softball League begins for Returning Teams, July 5 and for New Teams, July 13 both a $425 per team. Open League Basketball begins for Returning Teams, June 6 and for New Teams, June 13 both at $450 per team. Adult Volleyball Registration is July 5 at $200 per team.
