What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Life imitates art in FayettevilleOld Courthouse art show back for 37th time
By LINDSAY BIANCHI Indulge your creative side this weekend at the 37th annual Old Courthouse Art Show in downtown Fayetteville. Sponsored by the Fayette County Art Association, this two day event brings the talents of 75 artists from Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Local artist and show coordinator Patsy Gullett said Its not your run of the mill crafts show. Along with the many talented professionals, there will be an ongoing display of artwork from all the Fayette County elementary, middle and high schools. Art scholarships will be awarded to four high school seniors and presented Saturday at 2 p.m. on the Courthouse steps. All money collected from the art show, other than for general expenses, goes to the scholarship awards, Gullett said. She is also the designer of this years silk screened T-shirt commemorating the art show. A wealth of visual attractions await. Besides Patsy and husband, Ed Gulletts watercolors, local artists include: Patricia Clark, photography; Miles Davis, mixed media; Richard Dewalt, wood sculpture; Gail Jensen, glass jewelry; Sherry Mitcham, colored pencil portraits; Scott Schneiderman, painting and drawing; D.D. Watson, acrylics; and Dave Wells, photography. Other mediums include oils, pottery, weaving. jewelry, cast paper, sculpture, stained glass, woodworking, and metals. In addition to the art show, other weekend activities around the square include a Fayette Library book sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Civil War reenactors on Saturday, a hands-on childrens booth, food vendors,and the Peachtree Wind Ensemble Sunday. The show will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. Food lovers will also congregate around the courthouse Sunday and sample a variety of delicious tastes dished up by local restaurants and caterers. Last year thousands of attendees sampled the wares of the participating restaurants. This year huge crowds are expected to return to the square for a fun-filled afternoon. Tastes are available from .50 cents -$3 and may be purchased with tokens that are available at the ticket booths. Attendees will be able to taste from a variety of types of restaurants and businesss including Mexican, Italian, Caribbean, deli sandwiches and subs, pizza, ice cream and deserts. Non-stop entertainment is slated for the stage at the fountain beginning at noon There will be plenty of opportunity for the kids to be entertained as well. Free face-painting, games, and giant inflatables are all part of the Kids Korner. The event will take place from noon-5 p.m. on Sunday. Parking is available at Stonewall Village as well as other designated downtown parking areas. The Taste takes place the same weekend as the Old Courthouse Art Show. The Taste of Fayette is sponsored by Fayetteville Main Street and is just one of the many events slated for 2005.
