Bad Links? | Starrs Mill and McIntosh heading to state tourneysAll the local AAAAA high school golf teams competed in the 18 hole Regional Championship Tournament at White Oak Country Club in Newnan last Thursday. With the top two teams qualifying for the AAAAA State Championship Tournament, there was plenty of pressure on all the players. After all the competitors had finished, The East Coweta team squeaked out a two stroke win over the Starrs Mill team. Both teams will head to the AAAAA championship tournament next month at Jekyll Island. Scores recorded for the Starrs Mill team were Cory Crump (76), Connor MacBean (76), Mitsuki Shimba (79), Ben Creighton (79), Wade Holland (79) and Bo Tiller (81). The boys will play at the Oleander Golf Course in Jekyll Island, May 9. McIntoshs boys finished as region 4-AAAA runners-up to Northgate in what Coach Steve Hale jokingly referred to as monsoon conditions. The top scores for the Chiefs were Jason Kimpel (77), Matt Matala (77), George Maddox (80) and A.J. Brundrett (83). The boys will play at the Golf Club of Columbus on May 9. The McIntosh girls were also region runners-up and will play in the state tournament. The top scores for the Lady Chiefs were Amanda Carpenter (81), Bethany Graham (87) with a 39 on the back nine and Katie Dale (87). The girls will play at the Okefenokee Golf Club in Waycross, May 9. |
