Bad Links? | North PTC rezoning denied by councilOwners wanted to develop one-acre tracts By JOHN MUNFORD The Peachtree City Council has denied a more dense residential zoning for a lot on Greenwood Lane near the Kedron Estates subdivision. Harry Sanders and Doris Cash, who own the property, wanted it rezoned R-43 to combine it with a seven-acre R-43 tract to develop a subdivision of one-acre lots. The four-acre tract was originally located in Tyrone, which de-annexed the property so it could be moved into Peachtree Citys corporate boundary in 1999. At the time, it was zoned estate residential, which requires a minimum lot size of three acres. Melissa Griffis, an attorney representing the property owners, noted that some of the nearby residents who objected to the rezoning live on more dense lots than would be allowed if the rezoning were approved. City staff had recommended approval of the rezoning, arguing that it complies with the citys land use plan which calls for less dense zoning near the city borders. Several nearby residents complained about safety issues the increased traffic in the area would create, particularly because its near the location of a community association pool and there are no sidewalks in the area. After hearing all sides involved, Council voted unanimously to deny the rezoning.
