What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | The Diary of Anne Frank starts in Newnan
Everyone who sees this play is moved by it. The Diary of Anne Frank is based on the journal of a young Jewish girl who chronicled her daily life as she and her family hid from the Nazis in occupied Holland during World War II. The play was written by Frances Goodson and Albert Hackett.Newnan Theatre Company (NTC) is presenting a new adaptation done by Wendy Kesselman. The drama follows eight people who are cramped in a concealed attic, sharing with us their fears, hopes, humor and grief. Anne wrote in her diary each day for two years. Her words shine with spirit and courage shine and speak to us through the years. NTCs Artistic Director Dave Dorrell is directing The Diary of Anne Frank. In researching the play and the events surrounding the Holocaust, I found it difficult to imagine the horror of living in fear for so long, not knowing if today would be the day you were discovered and arrested, Dorrell says. Just the fact that these crimes took place is unbelievable, and yet the same situation exists in several parts of the world today. We often say in terms of the Holocaust, never again, yet in places like Somalia, it is happening today. The cast for this production includes Meagan Owens as Anne Frank, Bill Hernberg as Otto Frank, Lynn Sovik as Edith Frank, Brittany Sovik as Margot Frank, Penelope Ludlow as Mrs. Van Daan, Mike Maloy as Mr. Van Daan, Joshua Pettus as Peter Van Daan, Jeff Allen as Mr. Dussel, Whitney Hubbell as Miep Gies and Lamar Payne as Mr. Krahler. In the theatre lobby, there will be an exhibit detailing the hiding place of the Frank family and the secret annex by special arrangement with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust The Diary of Anne Frank will run through Saturday, May 7. This includes a special Thursday night performance on May 5 - Holocaust Remembrance Day. Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows start at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinee performances begin at 2:30pm.
