Bad Links? | Hospital salutes volunteer teamIn recognition of National Volunteer Week, April 17-23, Piedmont Fayette Hospital salutes its special Auxiliary membership. Last year, the Auxiliary donated nearly 30,000 hours of volunteer time to PFH. Since the hospital opened in 1997, the Auxiliary has provided more than 281,000 hours of service. Volunteers will soon be expanding services to the hospital into new areas by assisting the staff in the Womens Imaging Center and Patient Registration. In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, the hospital announced two winners of the 2004-2005 Spirit of Volunteerism award, Janice Cole and Geraldine Stinchcomb. The award is given annually to individuals who unselfishly demonstrate care and concern for others while volunteering. Both of these ladies are native to Fayette County and enjoyed careers as RNs before becoming volunteers. These individuals are true examples of the spirit of volunteerism, said Gayel Tillman, PFH Auxiliary president. Because fellow volunteers nominate recipients from within the Auxiliary, this is the most cherished award given by the Auxiliary each year. The Auxiliarys biggest endeavor is its annual Golf Tournament. The fifth annual tournament was last week at the Flat Creek Golf Club in Peachtree City. Proceeds benefit the many Hospital projects sponsored by the Auxiliary. The PFHA will offer a Courtesy Cart Shuttle Service starting Monday, April 25. The program will provide assistance to patients and their families, visitors and volunteers who need transportation to and from the parking lot throughout the Hospitals renovations. Fayetteville First Baptist Church has donated a six-passenger golf cart for the shuttle service, which is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Auxiliary continues to look for volunteers to help with their numerous projects, including the Courtesy Cart Shuttle Service. In addition, the Auxiliary will host a youth volunteer program in June. Some 75 youngsters between the ages of 14 and 18 will work in various areas of the hospital over the course of eight weeks to provide support to PFH staff and learn more about the medical field. Piedmont Fayette CEO Darrell Cutts presented youth volunteer Clint Thornburgh with his 500-hour pin in December. Rebecca Cutts, another youth volunteer, has earned her 300-hour pin. Both are a tribute to the success of the program. Application packets for the 2005 Summer Youth Volunteer Program are now available at the Auxiliary Office, located on the third floor of the 1279 Highway 54 Building just west of the Hospital.
